Taster Day: Pathways to Prayer

  • Whalley Abbey The Sands Clitheroe, England, BB7 United Kingdom (map)

Pathways to Prayer Taster Day

This is the second Pathways to Prayer day in our Year of Contemplation 2026 with a focus on seeking God and learning more about prayer through ancient and more modern paths and through silence, spiritual exercises and the senses. This day of workshops includes a carousel of Christian Meditation, Lectio Divina, Journalling and Praying with Icons.

The workshops will be led by Joanne Caine from the World Community for Christian Meditation and the School of Meditaton UK Coordinator; Peter Lumsden, retired academic and local preacher in the Methodist church with a long-standing interest in meditation and the contemplative as a pathway for spiritual formation; Revd Hilary Murphy, a member of the Whalley Abbey resident community and spiritual director; and Sister Sue OCMM who is a member of the Order of the Companions of Martha and Mary.

Participants are encouraged to bring a journal.

The Year of Contemplation 2026 continues with several quiet days, expanding what has been introduced in the workshops, and a retreat in December.
