Blackburn Diocese Pilgrim Experience

Blackburn Diocese Pilgrim Experience

Become part of a pilgrim group on a guided walk tracing a spiritual path between Whalley Abbey and Blackburn Cathedral. Gather ready to walk at Whalley Abbey chapel for a pilgrim blessing at 9.30 am. The day ends with dinner and a pilgrimage-themed talk back at the Abbey. The journey begins with a fairly strenuous ascent to the top of Whalley Nab and follows paths through woodland and fields to Great Harwood, and the rest of the way is on tarmac or gravel, mostly along the canal.

The cost of the day is £40, and the price includes a packed lunch and train back to Whalley. It is suggested that you leave your car at the Abbey for the day. Why not extend the experience with an overnight stay in one of our comfortable rooms either the night before or after, with a full breakfast to make up for all those miles walked! You can book extra nights by clicking the ‘book your overnight stay’ button on the top right of this page.

You can also enquire about an additional breakfast on the day of the walk by emailing bookings@whalleyabbey.org.

Reverend Hilary Murphy is a spiritual director and part of the resident community at Whalley Abbey. Having lived in the bush off-grid in South Africa, and serving extensively in the townships, Hilary developed a deep appreciation for God’s provision and presence in creation. Carolyn Johnson is an experienced walking guide. They are both passionate about facilitating pilgrimage.
