Year of Contemplation: Pathways to Prayer

Year of Contemplation: Pathways to Prayer

Pathways to Contemplative Prayer starts our Year of Contemplation 2026 with a focus on seeking God and learning more about prayer through ancient and more modern paths, and through silence, spiritual exercises and the senses.

This day of workshops includes a carousel of Centring Prayer, Visio Divina, Breath of Contemplation, and Imaginative Contemplation.

The day will be led by Rev. Hilary Murphy, a member of the resident community and spiritual director; Lloyd Allen, a counsellor, mental health specialist and member of The Vine Community, Whalley Abbey’s dispersed community; Bridget Clarke, a former Carmelite, an oblate member of the OSB and a non-resident member of the Whalley Abbey community, and Sue Lunn, a lay reader within the Diocese of Blackburn.

There will be two Pathways to Prayer workshop days in January and September, two retreats in June and December and several quiet days in between, expanding what has been introduced in the workshops.

Participants are encouraged to bring any journals, simple craft equipment or outdoor wear for their self-led quiet space.  Bring a bible/bible app.

£36 including lunch.
